Depending on your parent's current health and vitality, they may need at-home care or they may be interested in going to a senior center during the day to participate in activities. If your parents are in need of a care nurse during the time you are at work, allow your parent to visit and schedule interviews for nurses while they are in the city. Let them visit several senior centers if they are more active to determine where they would be the happiest. Allow your parent to have the final say in their own care.
Travel to your parent and hire a moving service
An elderly parent should not be left to pack up and make arrangements on their own. Overestimating their physical strength can cause serious issues to their health when it comes to picking up boxes or packing up belongings. Hire a long-distance moving company to come to your parent's home and pack everything away. Allow your parent to throw out or give away items from their home at their leisure. Once they are done giving away items before the move, do not throw away anything that makes it to your home. Allow your parents to go through anything necessary to make life easier.
Fly your parent and have their items delivered by truck
Have the long-distance movers relocate your parent's items by truck, but fly your parents to your home before the items are set to arrive. Traveling by air is one of the shortest methods, so your parent will not have to deal with a long trip. They will also be there when the movers are coming in to let them know where to unload all of their furniture. Allow your parent to set up their own room and living space so that they can easily adjust to the placement of the furniture. Once the furniture is all unloaded, give your parent time to go through things that they do not want to keep and move any extras that don't fit into storage.
